Today was a sweet day made sweeter by celebrating a birthday and having free reign on band aids. Grandma Bonnie has a routine of giving children turns to help in the kitchen which more and more are getting in on. This class continues to spend a lot of time at the Puzzle Corner and likes to share their successes. Read more to find out about our day.

1. Did Ms Kristin or Ms Brenda write in your journal today?
Some children put band aids in their journal, some children told us what to write, some children did both, and some children did their own writing.

Today we started the practice of transcribing…children tell us things they would like us to write in their journals. It was something that several children were very interested in. “I’d rather talk to you than scribble about it.”

2. What 4 B things did we have for snack today?
Max brought Birthday Treats and Wilmer brought blueberries, bananas and brownies. Thank you, friends! One friend does not eat eggs so he had safe brown chocolate instead. It was beautiful and bountiful!

There were enough bananas that we could eat more outside.

3. What fell on Ms Kristin’s toe and then rolled away?
A single blueberry!

It was very silly. She felt something wet on her toe and then someone saw it roll away. A little while later, we saw another runaway blueberry. They really are like balls!

4. How many balance boards were there today?
Three!

There are other things that can be used for balancing (chairs, tables, blocks, balance beam, etc) but we had three boards at Circle Time today. What strong children we have!
5. Who had a stomachache in our book today?
The very hungry caterpillar.

After our conversation during Circle Time about injuries that a band aid could help with, we explored the difference of a stomachache that a band aid couldn’t help with.

ALSO: In an effort to neutralize the word “fat” which I believe has too much judgment attached to it, we delighted that the caterpillar got as fat as he needed to before turning into a beautiful butterfly.
