These sweet Friday friends are a fun bunch. Over half the class only attends on Fridays and the other half comes for their third time, so this is a unique day to pull everything together for all of us. There is plenty of September work happening and exploring all areas of the school inside and out. We had 4 volunteers today which means we were at nearly 1 adult for every 2 kids. Incredible!

1. How did we do bunny breaths?
With three (or more) little breaths in and a long breath out.

After we started Circle Time that way, I explained that I felt calmer in my brain and body after doing those breaths. One friend asked me, “Did you feel spicy before that?” Yes! Yes, I did! I am familiar with the term spicy in the neuro-divergent world but hadn’t yet used it at preschool. We started it today. Then when I was reminding them of options between Snack Time and Outside Time, I suggested we keep it mild vs spicy which made me giggle.

2. How did you get the leaves to stay on your crown?
They stuck to the tape! The crown was made with wide masking tape and fabric leaves.

Thanks to Ms Emily, we got all the crowns made in honor of the First Day of Autumn. Some friends made enough for all family members, including a baby not yet born.
3. How did the block structures get taken down?
Very carefully.

I predict some engineers in our future with the care that was taken to both build up intricate structures and then dismantle them. In a class of 13 children who have free rein on the room, it is amazing the restraint and cooperation that was possible.

4. Where did the mama in the book give herself a shot?
In the arm.

The grown up in our book has diabetes so gives herself injections of medicine. We also looked at the page of the friend with a nut allergy and talked about epi-pens which give medicine as an injection in the leg.
In the same book we also saw some bees buzzing around (like our b projects) and a sun (like our sun projects)!

There were quite a few injection sites added to our Circle Time drawing as well.

5. What was happening that made hair and leaves move around?
A big wind!

We could hear the wind before we even went outside and then we could feel it and see evidence of it. In the wonderful wind we used chalk and water, made mud stew, sent the tires down the slides, found bugs and gathered acorns and gingko fruit.
