we have a new tradition for our golden letter friends this year: golden boxes.

it is a child’s “golden letter day” when our letter of the week is the same letter that starts their name.

one funny trick we do to figure out who the golden letter friend is is to say each name with the letter of the week (bevin, bylssa, bicah, etc.). that is a funny time, i tell ya.

the golden boxes have the same photo that we use for our picture board, our cubbies and journals. there is also a milk lid with their letter on it. i wish i had collected enough random trinkets to tuck in each box as well….maybe yet.
we’ve replaced name tags with photos in a few places in the classroom.

throughout the year we make changes to this routine, but for now children pick up their photo and put it in the cup at circle time (kind of tricky when i also have my coffee cup there). at circle time i match the photo to the name on the picture board.

sweet faces, indeed.
we have a former preschooler living across the street from our school. he knows how to read and offered to come each week to share a story.

thank you, henry, for being a teacher friend to us!

(and for bringing such yummy picnic snacks)
clearly there was a need not being met by my plans: jumping.

next move i made: move chair to carpet and pillow corner. : )
