The red roller, rainbow coloring, a jumping teacher, 100 somethings, drinking through veggie straws and a whistling preschooler : THURSDAY R WEEK

Once upon a time there was a teacher who bought 100 of something to use as frog tongues. She got all the supplies ready to turn paper plates into frog heads. Then she went to Circle Time with 12 friends and they gave the frogs their tongues!

Read on to what kind of frog tongues were chosen and more!

What color frog tongue did you choose?

There were many choices because Ms Kristin bought a box of 100 blowers to make a party favor for the children in honor of Leap Year (notice I am being very clear that this isn’t a preschool art project! ). These are great fun and promote big inhales and long exhales which can be quite regulating and calming (perhaps balancing out the intensity of the sound!). Ms Kristin also demonstrated a version of Leap Frog during our Leap Day conversation for those who wanted it!

Today is the last day for what color things?

Pink! The next time you come, all the pink things will be green for March!

How do you make the red roller car move?

By using our arms on either the wheels or the handles, the red roller can move forward or backward.

What colors did you use in your journal?

All the children had their own new box of markers. They could use any color or colors they wanted on their “rainbow” page.

Did you drink water through your veggie straw?

Max brought us gummy candies of rabbits who leap like frogs, red raspberries and veggie straws. We discovered that you really can drink water through them! We also discovered that one friend can whistle!

Frog tongues, monochrome rainbows, teacher Dave, R yoga sequence, and not stealing cards: WEDNESDAY R WEEK

Once upon a time there was a preschool class who read a book about gymnastics. The teacher was called Dave. Ms Kristin and the class practiced and practiced how to act out the last page of the book.

Read on to find out what that last page was about and more!

At the end of the day, what did we pretend to be flying away?

Birds! We matched the last page of our book today!

Can you make your body like a ramp?

We’ve got an R Week yoga sequence on the red rug this week!

We also sent our Show and Tell things and toys from the room down a ramp!

What animal was on your snack card?

Owen brought fruit rolls that had animal cards in each package. They are so special looking that we want to make sure your know they were not stolen from a preschool game. We also had rainbow Goldfish and Reeses peanut butter cups. Thank you, Owen! Ms Kristin brought some extra red tomatoes from home which some friends thought were Babybell cheese like last week!

Thank you, Snack Helper Line Leader!

2 Rosies, a disrespectful fox, rainbow stripes, burrowing groundhogs and a frog problem: TUESDAY R WEEK

Once upon a time a group of children made a rainbow robot out of rectangle boxes to help collect our garbage (she even went to church and helped take the offering) She’s been waiting in the Block Corner for R Week all school year. She’s only had wheels to move around in, but today she got legs!

Read on to learn about this and more…

Above photos are from one year ago…some of these friends were back together with Rosie today!

What is our robot’s name?

Rosie! We started adding more tape, paint and markers to her. Welcome back, Rosie! These children were clever and resourceful in getting the tape, marker and paint where they wanted it.

What is the hen in our book’s name?

Rosie! She is the hen who went on a walk around her farmyard. Meanwhile the fox was always following her. At one point we imagined that if Rosie had communicated to the fox that she didn’t want to be followed, then the fox was not following the preschool plan of respecting her.

What did Rosie do at Snack Time?

Collected our garbage! We had some wonderful wrappers for her from Scarlet’s Baby Shark fruit snacks (which provided a lot of conversation and box reading). We also had cheese crackers and Honeycomb cereal.

The Honeycomb cereal is made of honey which reminded us of the ending of our book today!

What did Ms Kristin think she got from her office to show you?

A frog project! But no, it was an Earth Day project from 2022. Since she could only see the green edge of the circle, she thought it was a frog. We noticed the 2 frogs in our book today which is a hint to a special project for Thursday (it’s Leap Day, you know!).

What color rainbow stripes did you choose?

Everyone got their Alphabet Project done today. The capital R is a bit complicated with one long rectangle, one short rectangle and a bump. Then there were hundreds of tiny rainbow paper stripes to choose from.

These friends were burrowing under pillows like groundhogs…what a perfect activity for the last week of February!

Our library became Wal Mart today. There was a very friendly cashier and customers.

A rolling robot, one year old memories, accidental orange, eating garbage and a Golden Letter friend: MONDAY R WEEK

Once upon a time a group of children made a rainbow robot out of rectangle boxes to help collect our garbage. Then she went to church and helped take the offering. Then she got to come to preschool graduation. She’s been resting on a shelf for nine months until today.

Above photos are from one year ago…these friends were back together with Rosie today!

Read on to learn more about our robot friend and our day…

What is our robot’s name?

Rosie! We started adding more tape, paint and markers to her. Welcome back, Rosie!

What did Rosie do at Snack Time?

Collected our garbage. Some friends who were here last year remembered this. That means they had a one year old memory! Pretty amazing for young children. Luckily we had some wrappers for her to eat. Thank you, snack friend and Rosie!

Lining up to wash hands is always interesting with Show and Tell right there. Plus, we’ve seem many friendships formed in this line!

Why did Ms Kristin act like Ms Bindergarten?

She needed to get a Golden Letter off of the ceiling. In our book Ms Bindergarten stands on a chair to hang a mobile which is what Ms Kristin copied (rather than the page where Ms Bindergarten stands on a chair and a block!).

What color of tape did Ms Kristin get by accident?

Orange! She wanted red since it starts with R but because her office light was off she accidentally got orange. When she got the red tape, she put it on the round cylinder block so we could keep track of it while it went down the ramp.

Why are all the pink things going away soon?

Because February is almost over! On Friday it will be March and all the pink things will be replaced with green things.

New sand techniques, a super clean classroom, drawing quickly and eating Q-tips: FRIDAY Q WEEK

Once upon a time there was a group of children who cleaned the classroom. They didn’t just pick up all the toys, they got wipes and brooms too. They cleaned it so well that it seemed like no one had been there not for just the day, but for a week!

Read on to learn more about this and more.

What color is our kinetic sand this month?

Pink! It is such a popular table and today we had a couple of friends showcase some new techniques.

When did you draw quickly?

When Ms Kristin sang louder, the markers went more quickly. When she sang quietly, the markers went more slowly. We were like Queen Quartence because she runs quickly and knows how to be quiet.

What silly thing did you eat at snack today?

Q-tips! Really they were pretzels with white chocolate ends from Arthur and Julian. They also brought Quesadillas! What a quality snack! Thank you, Arthur and Julian!

How clean did the classroom get today?

Ms Kristin said it looked so clean that it looked like no one had preschool all day. Then a friend said it was so clean it looked like we didn’t have school for a week! These children were on the tables and under the tables with wipes. They were sweeping the floor (and table tops). The chalkboard even got cleaned! The Family Corner is as tidy as can be! Incredible work, friends!
