A communion cup of M&Ms, mouse ears in the trash, a sad pig and mirror balls: THURSDAY M WEEK

Our Thursday “Blue Day” Class had the honor of welcoming in 2024 with M Week. We had a wonderful first day back with a Golden Letter friend too. The play was constructive and there were rounds of applause for the moments of conflict resolution that requires no teacher input. We started looking at pictures of Dr. King knowing his birthday will be celebrated later this month. In the same way he looked at himself and the world, we are looking at ourselves and the world.

Black and white things at the Tiny Things table.
Presenting the Golden Letter!

A day like today reminds me of how much magic happens and we since we can’t bottle it up and send it home with you, here are five questions to learn a little bit more.

How did we know who was the helper today?

There are pictures on the helper chart. This is new! Those people can help Grandma Bonnie get snack ready and will serve as Line Leaders. Everyone’s picture will get there at some point.

One of our Helper friends was gone today so she’ll get a turn next time. The other helper was quite busy and very happy to help. Grandma Bonnie got a communion cup out to use as a scooper for the mini M&Ms. I’m excited to tell church about that on Sunday!

What does “mini” mean?

Small, tiny or “very small.” Max brought mini M&Ms and mini pretzels along with strawberries for snack today. We had fun sorting the mini M&Ms by color and visiting the snack store often.

During snack time, Ms Brenda led us in a conversation about Christmas Trees: if we have them up in our house and if we did but took it down, where is it now. Brush pile, closet and play room were the responses!

Why was there all the play dough clay, mouse ears and a bag of M&Ms in the garbage can?

The clay that Ms Kristin made was supposed to be play dough and it was so dry that it was too crumbly so she decided to throw that away.

One of the six pairs of mouse ears from the Tiny Things table broke and because it was so pokey Ms Kristin threw it away.

And the bag of M&Ms was an empty bag that we finished during snack time! What an exciting and interesting trash can!

What did you show or tell about for Show and Tell today?

Today was the first day of the 23-24 school year for Show and Tell. This group seemed to really enjoy it. Some people brought items from home and some people told us about things at their house.

Not pictured here is a detailed description of some Lego people that can be taken completely apart and put back together along with a fast monster truck that is kept in someone’s room.

Yes, people can play with their Show and Tell items during the day.

What did Poppleton the pig look at before he felt bad?

We read a chapter about Poppleton, who felt sad looking in the mirror at himself. This was after someone said he was “too big.” Poppleton got some perspective and reassurance from a good friend of his and felt proud to be himself (in a new coat).

We were like Poppleton with some mirror work of our own today: Ms Kristin had a mirror box for Show and Tell and we had mirrors to make our Alphabet Project.

Finding the big mirror ball to match the little mirror ball from the Tiny Things.
Taking turns looking at the mirror box.
Cutting foil for our 2024 mirror balls.
4 strips of mirror stickers for our Alphabet Project

P.S. There is talk of snow tomorrow but these two prefer rainbows.

The number 50, blue mouths, defying gravity and being the star of our tree: FRIDAY L WEEK

Our Friday “Purple Day” Class ended the week with a rainy day, which kept us inside. There was no shortage of playtime and cozy group times as we focused on light, little and length. Some hot spots: Lego Land, car tunnel, play dough, Jumping Land, Grandma Bonnie’s ice skating card and the Puzzle Corner.

How many people all together are there in our school?

What did Golden Letter friend Lane bring for snack today?

How many stickers did you put on your Christmas tree?

Why did the porcupine run home to his mama crying?

Why was clean up time so loud today?

1. How many people all together are there in our school?

50!

We counted them today and got to 49. But then with Theo’s dad Mr Aaron we made it to 50! Amazing!

2.What did Golden Letter friend Lane bring for snack today?

Lays potato chips, vanilla wafers, and lemonade! One funny thing was that Walter’s chip stuck to his shirt and it looked like it was defying gravity!

Henry R brought treats that looks like Legos. If someone ate a blue one, they had a very blue mouth which made a lot of us giggle.

Thank you Lane and Henry!

3. How many stickers did you put on your Christmas tree?

Check your tree!

There was a lot of counting today and one friend added one more sticker so that he had 50-just as old as I am.

4. Why did the porcupine run home to his mama crying?

The friends at his school were saying hurtful things to him and called him a stick ball.

But in the end porcupine ended up being the star on the Christmas tree, just like us with our projects.

5. Why was clean up time so loud today?

Because we had to clean up Lego Land and all the cars from the tunnel! Ms Brenda brought over some dust pans, which worked well as Lego scoops.

Merry Christmas, sweet friends! You are the light of our lives.

Rainbow ribbon, a hurtful name, eating bears and a 5 year old: THURSDAY L WEEK

Our Thursday “Blue Day” Class enjoyed just being together after having our Christmas program earlier this week. Grandpa Kelven was back and the children are delighting in another adult who is playful, respectful and ready to connect!

We had fun with the car tunnel ramp and Lego Land along with playing in all corners of the classroom.

IMPORTANT: There is something special in your backpack today…make sure to open it and read the note. Here are a few pictures of us getting it ready:

Read on to find more about today…

Who brought a special birthday celebration snack?

Did you put stickers on your Christmas tree?

What did they call the porcupine in our book today?

Who put the star on your Christmas tree?

What happened when Ms Kristin push the button on the card?

1. Who brought a special birthday celebration snack?

Wilmer! He got to come to preschool on his actual birthday and we got to celebrate him turning five. How perfect that his snack was a teddy bear in a bed…just like the bear in our story with the little mouse.

So if your children say they ate a bear and a bed and a pillow and a blanket today, this is what they meant!

2. Did you put stickers on your Christmas tree?

Some people kept it plain “like in nature,” some people added stickers to be lights and some people add stickers to be ornaments.

Some of the different colors were allocated to “snowballs” or “chocolates” or “strawberries.” We kept them at the table for decorations for snack time and for a surprise after Story Time…read the next questions to find out about that!

3. What did they call the porcupine in our book today?

Stick ball.

That was hurtful to the porcupine who wanted to be in the Christmas program. The good news is that he was comforted by his mama and at the end of the book he became the star for the Christmas tree.

4. Who put the star on your Christmas tree?

Ms Brenda! When we made our trees before a Circle Time, there were no stars on them, but after story time we went and checked and there were stars on them! Not just regular stars…stars with our pictures on them! Then we took them outside and made a Christmas Tree forest in the middle of the hay bales.

5. What happened when Ms Kristin push the button on the card?

A little character skated on a pond!

Grandma Bonnie was gone today, but she left this fun card for us to play with and look at. Some people liked to have the characters skating on their feet and other times it skated laying down. We figure it out it was a magnet in the card, which means that a jingle bell stuck to it as well.

We ended the day walking on the hay bales singing We Wish You a Merry Christmas to each other and Happy Birthday to Wilmer. Of course, we also sang the joke way…

19 questions where the answers are all yes: WEDNESDAY’S Christmas Program Edition

Our Wednesday “Green Day” Class hosted the second of two Christmas programs. We had an hour and a half to get everything else done before joining our special people in the sanctuary. We changed our schedule today and ate snack early today. This means we had Circle Time early today. This means we did our projects and outside play earlier today too. In that short amount of time we played hard! We were outside when our special people started to arrive…how fun to see them while we played, including some former preschoolers!
