s is for salsa

cinco de mayo at preschool - 02

in honor of cinco de mayo, we made “preschool salsa.”

cinco de mayo at preschool - 01

we tossed the juice of a couple of limes, about half an onion and a few cans of tomatoes with green chiles in the blender.

it was no surprise that there were quite a few “eeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwww” when i cut the onion.

but the whole process was quite entertaining.

ingredients were divided into baby food jars and each had a turn to dump a jar into the blender.

earth day - 01

since it was “x marks the spot” week and those pirates were pulling tricks, they also hid a couple of the letters from our EARTH DAY sign (the big paper is what was left over from our paper plate earth project).

earth day - 02

last summer i couldn’t resist buying these little paper recycle cut outs…but since i don’t do bulletin boards, i didn’t know what to do with them…so, in the journals they went in honor of earth day.

everyone had a box (from home and from the church recylcing).  we needed those for all the treasure we found!

there were clues leading us all around.

u is for underwater

to create an under water scene, we did the classic crayon resist and blue water paint (food coloring in water…it was april and all our liquid watercolor was gone).

water days - 06

a project well done outside.

coloring happened on the sidewalk and painting happened in the grass.

i imagine there will be a bit of culture shock in kindergarten when each child has her own box of crayons and his own cup of paint.  until i see photos, i kind of forget how often we do things as a “school family.”  this means plenty of asking someone to pass the white crayons, waiting for a color, thanking for the crayon, etc.
