Water changing color, yoyos, rainbow rain, unlimited fruit snacks and highlighting: FRIDAY Y WEEK

Once upon a time there were tubs of water holding lots of rubber duckies. The water started out clear but as the morning went on it got darker and darker blue. What in the world was going on?

Read on to learn about the water changing color, yoyos, rainbow rain, unlimited fruit snacks and highlighting.

How did the water turn darker blue?

By washing the blue paint off our hands and the yellow ducks! The easel has different shades of blue and duck painting is allowed.

What color yoyo was on your alphabet project?

Orange!

How did you get your rainbow rain strips?

Ms Kristin had the paper strips in buckets hanging from the ceiling. They could get the colors they wanted in any way they wanted: crawling under, having a friend swing them the bucket, climbing on the table, using a scooter to get under, etc. Bonus: inevitably they looked up to see how the buckets were suspended.

How many fruit snacks did you eat?

They will have to tell you!

At the end of the school year we like to finish up food. Ms Kristin found a big box of fruit snacks she bought a while ago so today was a popcorn and fruit snack day, safe for everyone!

What yellow thing did you draw today?

Since “yellow” starts with the letter Y, we looked at objects of different shades of yellow and then drew yellow things with bright highlighter markers. We also played I Spy and told stories about the yellow things on our Story Quilt from Grandma Bonnie.

Show and Tell continues outside and was very captivating.

May you be greeted with this much joy.

A jar of water, climbing on tables, a yummy Y snack, sliding inside and the new color of the month: THURSDAY Y WEEK

Once upon a time there was a jar of clear water and 13 children looking at it. Then some yellow liquid paint went in and all the water turned yellow! Then one drop of liquid blue paint went in. The blue drop started to move and sink. The children left the jar to go wash their hands and eat snack. When they came back later, something happened to water!

Read on to learn about .the jar of water, how we got our rainbow pieces, a yummy Y snack, sliding inside and the new color of the month.

What happened to the jar of water?

It turned green! No one even had to mix it or stir it.

This was the perfect activity to do with our book about little blue and little yellow.

How did you get your rainbow pieces?

Ms Kristin had the paper strips in buckets hanging from the ceiling. They could get the colors they wanted in any way they wanted: crawling under, having a friend swing them the bucket, climbing on the table, using a scooter to get under, etc. Bonus: inevitably they looked up to see how the buckets were suspended.

What if there hadn’t been yeast in the buns?

They would be like crackers!

Thank you, Heath, for Yeast buns, Yellow bananas with peanut butter and Yogurt. Some friends put the peanut butter on their buns and some put yogurt on their buns!

Where did Ms Kristin put the slide?

On the big steps! After clearing our snack spots and getting shoes on, children could come take turns on the slide.

We usually have a lot of energy after snack time and this helped get it out!

What is the new color of the month?

Blue! This meant blue play dough, blue paint, blue water and blue collage supplies.

May Day baskets, the new color of the month, our Y joke, eating flowers and super tall grasses: WEDNESDAY Y WEEK

Once upon a time there was a basket of flowers on Ms Kristin’s office door handle. There was no name on it, no words on it. When she picked it up, none of the flowers even fell out. How were they sticking in there?

Read on to learn about the May Day baskets, the new color of the month, our Y joke, eating flowers and our super tall grasses.

What held the flowers in the May Day baskets?

A ball of purple play dough!

Keep your eyes out at home, families, you too might find a May Day surprise hanging around.

What color of play dough do we have today?

Blue!

We have several shades of blue, which reminded us of our W water projects.

Our Tiny Things changed as well…welcome back, blue things!

What is the letter of the week?

This video is all you need:

What was special about our snack today?

They were May Day baskets with cookie flowers! Thank you, Walter and Annie!

Some friends emptied their basket and then filled them with water to drink. We get a lot of practice with pouring, filling and emptying during snack time.

Where is the super tall grass at our preschool?

Around the hay bales!

We’re pretty sure some of it is actually wheat! Whenever we find tall grass or dandelions, we call it our jungle spot and we love it. We also love seeing rabbits…

Ms Eliza was back today and helped get a lot of alphabet projects done.

The Yellow ducks are here for the week and got a lot of play time!

Welcome to May, everyone!

Taking off the running track, new teachers, the color yellow, a forgotten snack and water play: TUESDAY Y WEEK

Once upon a time there was a running track on the floor. Children could run on it anytime they wanted to. But every year the running track is removed so the floor can get cleaned. Today was that day. What would they do with all the leftover tape?

Read on to learn about the leftover tape, new teachers, the color yellow, a forgotten snack and water play.

What did you do with the leftover tape from the running track?

Put it on the tape ball! It’s a ball made of all the tape that we’ve taken off of things.

These kids did some great HEAVY work pulling the tape off the floor.

Who were our new teachers today?

Wilmer and Asher’s mamas! They came to help since Ms Brenda was gone.

Ms Jasmine and Ms Jessica were very helpful and kind. What a treat to have them. They even did Ms Brenda’s job of helping with all the alphabet projects!

Good thing we still had Grandma Bonnie today!

What color did you use in your journal today?

Yellow! Since it starts with the letter Y, we looked at objects of different shades of yellow and then drew more things.

I also did a spontaneous reading of Llama Llama Red Pajama as they drew.

What snack did the teachers forget about since V week?

The pudding from Scarlet! She brought chocolate and vanilla pudding for V week and we forgot it. Then we forget during W week and we forgot during X week. Finally Ms Kristin remembered!

Scarlet also gave us goldfish earlier in the year, so it was a Scarlet snack day! Thank you, Scarlet!

A lot of friends helped set the table today for which we are grateful.

What was in the water tubs today?

Yellow ducks!

All the children were really mindful of our safety plans and each other.

With today being the last day of April we put the purple tiny things away. Starting tomorrow, the blue things will be out!

The Healthcare Center was consolidated to a smaller corner but still very active including slow and careful rides in the cart bed.

Since our crokinole pieces have colored dots on them, it reminded me of the book Little Blue and Little Yellow so we read this during Work Time too.

Happy last day of April!

A red 3D machine, cutting up X-rays, a massive clean up, eating Xs and walking on things: FRIDAY X WEEK

Once upon a time there was a red machine with the letters 3D on it. It showed us pictures and the pictures could change but it didn’t need batteries or to every charge. We looked at live animals in it after looking at xrays of snakes, birds and mammals. The children and teachers each took a turn to look through. What did they see?

Read on to learn about the red 3D machine, cutting up x-rays, a massive clean up, eating Xs and walking on things.

What did you see when you looked in the machine?

Children and baby chicks!

We had just looked at an xray of a bird, so this was very interesting. The battery and electricity free 3D View Master will be available to play with and press the orange lever the next time you come!

What did you glue in your journal today?

Pictures of real x-rays! We cut them apart and glued them in. There were heads, limbs and bodies,

Some friends had their own real x-rays to show and one friend’s little brother has a broken bone right now!

Our Healthcare Center was well staffed with doctors and even a mama who took things into her own hands:

“Sometimes doctors need to be rescued by a passerby who was just walking around.”

What did you do during our massive clean up?

There were some very unique sweeping techniques today and some very strong chair stackers. When children were done, they found books to look at.

Who made our edible Xs?

Charlie and his Oma! We got a detailed instruction of how they were made. Regular pretzels could also turn into x shapes too. We got a head start on Y week and had yogurt as well. Thank you, Charlie!

Did you walk on the bumpy stepping stones?

We have four very bumpy stepping stones to walk on. Today some friends added pillows between them so our feet had two very different experiences!

Enjoy more video and photos of our day!

Happy Friday, everyone!
