plans for c week fun came to be!

we move our pictures (with magnets on back) from our class pockets to the (magnetic) picture board every day. during c week we had a rainbow color chart to place our pictures on our favorite color available.

we used the bubble wrap from last week to make a giant cloud (wrapped it in a piece of fabric, hot glue and tying to secure it):

---

children are allowed to get drinks any time they want to, in their own cups labeled with name and photo. i found one little friend filling every cup and adding a straw to each.

---

we used rainbow cellophane (and old tablecloth i found) and old black file folders (thanks, angie) to make color viewers.

---

there was color exploring all week long:

one of our older classes did the permanent marker and rubbing alcohol tie dye technique. ms. cathy and i had as much fun as they did.

---

that letter C is a tricky one. not only did we have show and tell things arrive that sound like /k/ and /s/ and /CH/, we have a preschool friend who starts with C that sounds like /SH/. and then… how tricky it was to find this friend’s golden letter and realize that his name does not start with C, it starts with S!

something that wasn’t ever in my lesson plans was this fantastic child created activity:

thursday was the first day of autumn so we made leaf balls and enjoyed unseasonably warm outside time!

mr. matt brought his dog, fozzie, to play.

he even let us dress him up in dress up clothes!

and one time, he was so thirsty he drank out of my cup!

we celebrated mr. matt’s birthday with lots and lots of donuts.

the big blue slide had a lot of action this week…including some brave experimenting:

we do show and tell different ways: on wednesday we set our things on our big white board and i wrote the words. and i provided a lesson in inventive writing as i worked to write “brachiosaurus” knowing it was wrong!

on thursday, we worked to “fill in the circle” and oh, the joy of adding a real baby to the collection!

our B tray had bikes and bunnies on the beach

we did a lot of bread talk:

and made a HUGE baguette! last spring one class went on a field trip to baker sharon:

and these kiddos remembered her making five cuts in the top of each loaf!

i will greet you with smiles and a determined hope as my heart grieves and soul rages and mind stops with exhaustion at the continued violence.

A week was amazing, awesome, adventurous, adorable!

a new tiny muscle option this year are mini sensory boxes (26 plastic pencil boxes for each letter of the week): this week we had alphabet beads and short lengths of pipe cleaner.

we took pictures to use for our picture boards, cubbies, journals, etc.

this is when children can use any expression they like and choose which photo to use. that’s why some look “mad” or “sad” or “wild” or “happy” or “glad” or “silly” or “normal.”

as is tradition: the first days of school we paint! we used hands and brushes on plastic bags that were taped to the table, then made prints.

one little friend knows the space well since she also comes to church here, so when she was done painting, i had fun watching her go get the bike out of the depths of storage.

outside time was full of the “littlest pushing the biggest” and screaming and running and saying hello to neighbors.

and one day, it rained!

we taste tested apple slices and apple sauce, then circled which one we preferred.

another traditional first day activity: free reign on glue bottles.

and we’ve already had birthdays to celebrate!

and finally, this found writing proves that the letter A is not needed to communicate that the family corner store sells sausage, eggs and ice cream.

dear families of the 2017-2018 school year…here are the forms! there are optional online forms for bringing snack, bringing play dough and a photo release. there are state required forms (the authorization for emergency medical care and the medical record forms) that are required on your child’s first day of preschool. we are also offering automated payment plans for tuition, look for that information in a separate email. let me know if you have any questions.

PLAY DOUGH SIGN UP:

(recipes following sign up form)

1970s Play Dough

2 c flour

4 t cream of tartar

1 c salt

2 T oil

2 c water

food coloring

boil water.  add salt and oil and stir til dissolved.  add remaining ingredients and stir/knead/mix in mixer.  can add additional flour as needed.  can also add essential oils or extracts for scent.
