i is for ice milk

we had a fun time measuring and counting making ice milk. quite simply this is chocolate milk and strawberry milk poured in ice cube trays with mini craft sticks set in. we have some made with water for those who can’t drink milk because “if i do i will be sick.” they are in the preschool freezer as i write! we’ve added a picture note on our calendar so we remember to taste it on the right day.

making ice milk

we offered a simple drawing project during work time. when given a page with a paper cone glued on, preschoolers drew circle shaped scoops. then of course there is the writing of words, the counting of scoops, the making up of flavors, the color recognition, the color blending, and adding a cherry on top so we know when the ice cream cone is done.

we continued with the ice milk theme for our journal time. we practiced at circle time first using two short craft sticks and one regular craft stick to make a capital i. then we went to our journals and glued them in as a capital i shape.

i is for imagination

this is part of what i love about my work.

we have this weaving hanging in our room. it has been basically untouched for months. until this day.

this was complete cooperative work. incredible imagination. i never completely understood the game. but there was a lot of fine motor muscle work wrapping little animals around the yarn.

more good times.

h is for hat, hair, hand and house

preschoolers brought their own hats this week.  i felt like i was on elmo’s world when i asked them one at a time during show and tell:  how do you put a hat on? if they wanted to, preschoolers took a turn to stand on a capital H taped to the floor and show us how they put their hats on.  cute.

we made hair bands.

with duct tape and fun foam strips, they could lay the strips on the tape anyway they like.  then we covered the tape with another piece of tape and measured them to fit.

the only rules were for each house to have at least one door, one window and one roof (many have more of each!).  we’ve added a road and will add christmas decorations once advent starts. we’ll also introduce children to their address and add house numbers.

these hand puppets were silly.  we cut old manila folders and colored and added paper fingernails.  then stapled a piece of paper on the back so our real hands could fit in.

waving hello and hi and hola was more fun!

h is for hospital

with a little rearranging we created a hospital in the classroom.

hospital beds for the dolls and animals (and for the preschoolers who weren’t afraid to squeeze in).  cheap masking tape was used for band-aids and bandages.

there was an xray station (with real human xrays…thank you ms. aimee and real animal xrays i ordered years ago from lakeshore).

we turned our cart into an ambulance which has been moving surprisingly slow in the classroom.

the hospital office has been very busy.  all of my procedures one day cost me “thirty nine and nine” each time.
